The Secretary recommended that $2,000 be included in the 2008 Fundraising goal for VA gas costs. The Board rejected Bob’s request to pay for VA volunteers’ first meal in KY, before the cook arrives, since these costs are considered “in-transit” expenses which have been paid by volunteers in the past. Bob understands the Board rulings on the above two requests. Bob and the Construction Director have been having extensive email discussion on the schedule for completing the two homes of this year’s deployment. Bob’s request to have another volunteer (Dave Perales) was approved. Dave was added to the Support Crew.

Also on House No. 1, the Owner is providing kitchen cabinets which will save the $1,300 if Lowe’s cabinets were bought. Both home floor plans have been approved by the families. Material Lists for both homes were sent to Sister Nancy on 20 Apr 07. The Construction Director passed around the Crew List, the Carpool Plan, the Berthing Plan, Items to Bring List and the Safety Plan. The Building Crew now has 31 volunteers. The time of departure of the 2nd vehicle in the Carpool Plan still needs to be resolved between Ed Donohoe and Donna Vogt. Vice-President Ken Zeiger submitted bills to the Secretary for the trailer spare tire and insurance. Ken is still working on locking devices for the trailer and decided not to install the ladder rack and signage. The Construction Director called Marcel Moreau’s Service One supervisor, John Churchill (597-2175) on 16 Apr 07, who indicated that a monetary donation to the Crew was possible. After further discussion on providing a $2,000 gift for flooring and paint (which was previously approved by the Board on 9 Aug 07, for one home) be extended to the second family, the Board was in agreement that the gift should be made, if funds were available. Sister Nancy will present the costs of both homes with 4 of the 5 Board members present so a final decision on the gift for the 2nd home can be made. Bob requests that in 2008, the Crew fund the VA gas costs at a rate of $200 for cars and $300 for trucks. For 2007, VA has 7 drivers, which would mean a cost between $1,400 to $2,100 to be included in the fundraising goal.

D. Crew WebSite ( http://www.middypuppy.com/acc ): No new developments.

E. Colorado (CO) Connection (Gary Piper): Only Gary and his son-in-law are coming this year.

F. Account Signature Cards: The Treasurer is trying to track down forms signed by the Vice-President which he put in the mail for the Fidelity money market account.

G. 2007 Deployment, 7-20 Jun 07: The Construction Director reported that Sister Nancy has corrected all the names of the children of both families (2 young boys each). Since we need the homeowner to work with the Crew on the plumbing and electrical, the priority of the families have changed with Higginbotham Family now No. 1 and the Bledsoe Family now No. 2. The sites are 7.5 miles apart and are both relatively flat with existing septic tanks.

Based on the orientation info received from Sister Nancy, both home floor plans will be the same. The Construction Director’s plan remains the same to complete the first home thru the drywall and kitchen cabinets, as done in 2006, and complete the second home thru the weatherproof stage, similar to pre-2006 condition of the homes. Sister Nancy has found James Sumner, a licensed electrician, who will do the electrical work on House No. 2 for $3,800 ($1,800 for labor and $2,000 for materials). Curtis Campbell will assist Homeowner Dewayne Bledsoe with the plumbing work on House No. 2. Bill Campbell will do the kitchen cabinets on House No. 2. The Construction Director passed around the Crew List, the Carpool Plan, the Berthing Plan, Items to Bring List and the Safety Plan. Marcel Moreau provided the name of his Service One supervisor, John Churchill (597-2175), who is willing to make a monetary or electrical material donation. The Construction Director proposed that, if funds are available, the $2,000 gift for flooring and paint (which was previous approved by the Board on 9 Aug 07, for one home) be extended to the second family. This motion was tabled for further discussion. Pauline Hightower and Marilyn Galaska are collecting clothing and household goods for both families. The Secretary reported that we still have 28 hats so none need to be ordered now.

B. Chaplain Don Gaffney’s Retirement: The Secretary reported that the ceremony will be on Wed, 16 May 07, at 11:30 AM in the SAC Chapel. A potluck lunch will follow. Crew members were encouraged to attend. The Secretary will make a Crew presentation to Chaplain Don and Ruth for all their efforts in support of the Crew.

5. Old Business:
A. Update of Membership Roster: The roster was passed around for updating.

B. Combined Federal Campaign: The Secretary reported that 2007 CFC application was received by email and is due on 12 Apr 07. A brief review of the application indicates that we now must specify times for 15 office hours per week. The Secretary proposed specifying 4 to 7 PM, Monday thru Friday. We also need to specify our NTTE Code of “L Housing, Shelter.” Items no longer required in the application include the list of Board officers and meeting dates and the annual report to donors.

C. VA Connection (Bob Corsi): A total of $27,941 (Nativity Church Check for $26,866 and Burke, VA Knights of Columbus Check for $1,075) has been received from the Jan 07 collection at Nativity Catholic Church. G. 2007 Deployment, 7-20 Jun 07: The Construction Director indicated that Sister Nancy has identified two families for this June’s deployment. The Dewayne and Rebecca Bledsoe Family has the highest priority. Dewayne works in a saw mill and the family has 3 children. The family is currently living in a very poor trailer. The Wendell and Shana Higginbotham Family have two young boys, 3 years and 1 month old, and live in a small trailer. Wendell is a State Policeman and Shana is the niece of Marlene Goodin (2001 Home). The Higginbotham Family has college loans and maternity bills. The Higginbotham Family may be replaced with another family if they move from the Bledsoe neighborhood which is off Highway 90 at the retirement home and before you get to the Tom Renfro Home (2005). The Construction Director’s current plan is to complete the first home thru the drywall and kitchen cabinets, as done in 2006, and complete the second home thru the weatherproof stage, similar to pre-2006 condition of the homes. The Construction Director identified a new requirement that if the homeowners take out electrical and plumbing permits they must be actively involved in this work or a State Inspector could shut down the job. The alternative is for Sister Nancy to hire a licensed electrician and a licensed plumber with costs yet to be determined. The Construction Director has indicated to Sister Nancy that the Crew prefers to have the homeowner work with us on the electrical and plumbing to avoid additional costs and so that we can be ready for the Monday rough-in inspection and do the drywall work on the first home. The Construction Director passed around the Crew List, the Carpool Plan, the Berthing Plan, a worksheet on cost comparison of the last 4 year’s of homes and a floor plan for the Bledsoe Family. The Construction Director still awaits information from Sister Nancy to do the floor plan for the second family. On the sites now identified, existing septic tanks can be used for the new homes. Kitchen cabinets from Lowe’s of Somerset, KY, cost about $1,300 in 2006 and Bill Campbell can build cabinets for about $2,000. The Construction Director plans to buy Lowe’s kitchen cabinets for the first home and use Campbell cabinets on the second home. The Building Crew (8-15 Jun 07) now has 31volunteers and the Drywall Finish Crew (13-19 Jun 07) has 3 volunteers. Vice-President Ken Zeiger will have the trailer ready for the deployment.
